LARC Any Pistol/Any Sights Pistol Match

LARC Pistol Match
Rules and Procedures

This page publishes the special rules for the LARC 300 Point Pistol Match.  The 600 Point Match is simply two of each stages, that is, two slow fire stages, two timed fire stages and two rapid fire stages.   Unless otherwise stated here, NRA Conventional Pistol Rules apply.  Safety is the first concern of all competitors and match officials.  All pistols will be pointed in a safe direction at all times; it is the responsibility of everyone to enforce this requirement as it applies to both personal firearms and those of other shooters.   However, be sure you are in compliance before worrying about the next guy.

 1. In this match, any pistol (semi-automatic or revolving) may be used in any caliber.

 2. Iron, optical, or any other non-intelligent sights may be used.

 3. The pistol must be fired from the standing position and may be supported with one or two hands.  The elbows must not touch any part of the chest.

 4. All targets will be set at 25 yards and may be mounted on the same target backer.

 5. There are three stages of fire: slow fire, timed fire and rapid fire.

 6. The Slow Fire stage is 10 shots fired in 10 minutes on the B-16 25 Yd Slow Fire target.

 7. The Timed Fire stage is two strings of 5 shots, each fired in 20 seconds on the B-8 Timed and Rapid Fire target.

 8. The Rapid Fire stage is two strings of 5 shots, each fired in 10 seconds on the B-8 target.

 9. No more than five rounds of ammunition will be loaded in a pistol at any time; for the slow fire stage, the pistol will be reloaded with a second preloaded magazine or the magazine will be removed, reloaded and reinserted; or for a revolving pistol, the cylinder will be reloaded with five rounds and firing will resume without any command from the line officer.

10. During any stage, the shooter may rest the pistol on the shooting bench but must retain a grip upon the pistol with at least one hand.

11. When the shooter places a pistol on the shooting bench, it must have the action open and be unloaded.

12. Before each stage/string, the range officer will identify the stage/string, e.g, "This is the slow fire stage, 10 shots in 10 minutes."

13. There will be a three minute preparation period before each stage started by the command "The preparation period starts now" and ended by the command "The preparation period has ended."  However, if all shooters are ready, the range officer may bypass or shorten the preparation period.

14. Shooters will load their pistols only after the command "With five rounds, load and be ready."

15. After the shooters have been given the Load command and a reasonable amount of time to load, the range officer will give the following commands at approximately three second intervals to start the shooting period:
"Is the line ready?" (If a shooter is not ready, the shooter will raise the non-shooting hand to get the attention of the range officer.  The range officer will reply "The line is not ready.")  When the shooter is ready, the range officer will begin again with "Is the line ready?"
"The line is ready."
"Ready on the right."
"Ready on the left."
"Ready on the firing line."
"Commence firing" or an agreed upon signal such as the blowing of a whistle.

16. When the firing period has expired, the range officer will command "Cease fire" or "Cease firing" or give an agreed upon signal such as the blowing of a whistle.  Note that the cease fire command may be given at any time the cessation of firing should be required.  The cease fire command may be given by any shooter who observes an unsafe condition requiring the cessation of firing.  When the cease firing command has been given, shooters will immediately cease firing, unload their pistols and lock the actions open.

17. The firing period for the slow fire stage is ten minutes.  The shooter will reload during the ten minute period without receiving a command to do so.  If all shooters have completed firing before the firing period expires, the range officer may terminate the firing period by calling "Cease fire."

18. The firing period for each string of the timed fire stage is 20 seconds.  After the first string has been fired, the range officer will allow sufficient time for magazines to be reloaded before beginning the second string.

19. The firing period for each string of the rapid fire stage is 10 seconds..  After the first string has been fired, the range officer will allow sufficient time for magazines to be reloaded before beginning the second string.

20. After each string of timed and rapid fire, the range officer will ask "Are there any alibis?" (malfunctions requiring a refire.)  If a shooter has experienced a malfunction and has not cleared it, the shooter may raise a hand signifying that a malfunction has occured and the shooter wishes to refire.  After the range officer verifies that a malfunction has occured, the shooter will be given the opportunity to refire one string; the target with the extra hits will be scored by counting the 10 lowest value shots.
